A new dimension of information warfare is emerging: flooding the Internet with content designed not only to influence humans, but also the artificial-intelligence systems that collect, retrieve and summarise online information.
The pro-Kremlin Pravda / Portal Kombat network is one of the clearest documented examples. Hundreds of automated websites reproduce narratives favourable to Moscow at industrial scale, and some of this material has subsequently appeared in AI-generated answers. (Le Monde.fr)
HOW IT WORKS
False narrative → mass publication → automated translation → search indexing → AI crawling/retrieval → apparently credible synthesis.
The fundamental vulnerability is false corroboration: dozens of websites may appear to independently confirm a story although they ultimately reproduce the same original source.
The Washington Post found that parts of the Pravda ecosystem appeared to be designed more for automated crawlers than for significant human readership. (The Washington Post)
THE ECONOMIC RISK
A particularly sensitive narrative would claim that foreign investors are returning massively to Russia, sanctions are losing effectiveness and Western companies are preparing to re-enter the Russian market.
If sufficiently replicated, such claims could contaminate the information environment consulted by AI-powered financial research or country-risk systems and contribute to artificially optimistic summaries of the Russian economy.

“Influence what humans believe”
to:
“Influence the information from which machines construct reality.”
Financial institutions, analysts and governments must therefore verify source provenance, original documents and genuine independence between apparently corroborating publications.
Ten articles are not ten independent confirmations if all ten originate from the same information architecture.
